Some seniors, who are in good overall health, choose to move to a 55+ community for socializing and activities while leaving behind the workload of a household including cooking, laundry, lawn mowing, and general home upkeep. These are typically apartment style communities that offer studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom options with onsite amenities.

There are typically 2 types of assisted living and memory care facilities.  These are large facilities and residential care homes.  They both offer assistance with meals, personal care, bathing, eating, and medication management to name a few.  They both offer various activities and socialization.​

For seniors with memory issues, dementia or Alzheimer's, many of these facilities and care homes specialize in memory care and will have a secured floor or house with high levels of supervision and assistance.
